The political system in Britain and the USA

a) Britain

The United Kingdom consists of two large parts, Great Britain (comprising England, Wales, and Scotland) and Northern Ireland, and more than 5,000 smaller islands. Among the smaller islands we can find the Isle of Wight (off the southern coast of England), the Isles of Scilly (off the extreme south-west), and the Isle of Man (in the Irish sea).
The Commonwealth of Nations has developed from the former British Empire. It has lost much of its former political and economic significance and has now become a kind of cultural and social “club” with the purpose of promoting mutual links between its members in the field of culture, education, exchange of ideas, sport, and other aspects of social life. An important feature common to all member nations of the Commonwealth is the use of English, either as the first language (in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and most of Canada) or as a second language (in the rest of the Commonwealth).
